Escapee captured with large amount of suspected drugs

Escapee from Jefferson County was taken into custody Sunday, March 6, 2022 by McCreary County Sheriff Randy Waters. Travelling west on KY Hwy. 92 Sheriff Waters stopped to check on a car in a ditch with the driver sitting in the vehicle. Sheriff Waters identified the driver to be Samuel Wayne Hurd and knew there was a warrant for Hurd’s arrest for escape. 

Sheriff Waters took Hurd into custody. Found on Hurd was a bag containing approximately 20 grams of a white crystal substance with drug paraphernalia. 

Samuel Wayne Hurd, age 35, of Parkers Lake, KY was charged with Escape 2nd Degree, Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree, 1st Offense (> OR = 2 GMS Methamphetamine), Assault 4th Degree (no visible injury) and was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
