Proposals for school nurse project submitted

By Eugenia Jones

The McCreary County School Board met in a special called Board meeting on April 12, 2022 to approve a financial consultant independent contractor agreement (Mark Patrick) and to conduct interviews for the McCreary County School District’s school nurse project.  The following medical firms submitted and presented proposals during the meeting:  Appalachian Family Care, Family Health Care, and Cumberland Family Medical Centers.  The submission deadline for proposals was March 15, 2022.

McCreary County’s request for proposals (RFP) for the school nurse project states the District seeks a three year engagement of a firm to reimburse for or provide (including salaries, benefits, and applicable stipends) a registered nurse at each of the five sites within the district and an APRN that visits each site once a week for scheduled appointments.  The firm is to provide supplies for each site, provide medical oversight of standing orders, over-the-counter medication, emergency protocols, and provide necessary liability coverage.  The selected firm is to provide mandated training (including insulin training) for staff within the program and unlicensed assistive personnel training to school staff.  The firm is also asked to provide staff to handle billings as well as provide education to students.   The firms may also offer additional services such as providing substitute nurses, floating nurses, etc.

On April 19, 2022, the Board met again in special session to discuss the school nurse project.

“The Voice” has filed an open records request for copies of the submitted proposals and will receive copies of the proposals after the contract is awarded.

With award of the final contract pending, the school nurse project is expected to be on the agenda of the next regular school board meeting scheduled at the Central Office on Monday, April 25, 2022 at 7:30.  It is anticipated the Board will either (a.)  Meet in executive (closed) session with all three medical firms and then re-enter regular session to award the contract or (b.)  Allow all three firms to present their proposals again in open session and award the contract during a later special called meeting.
