By Eugenia Jones

Scott County, TN and McCreary County, KY law enforcement, family, and friends are searching for a McCreary County native who went missing on Saturday, June 18, 2022.  The missing, fifty year old Darlene Chitwood, whose current address is Winfield, TN, has several family members also residing in McCreary County who are asking the public to help them find their missing loved one.

Darlene Chitwood

Chitwood’s daughter filed a missing person report at the Scott County (TN) Sheriff’s Office on Sunday (6-19) after an individual received a message from Chitwood at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Saturday evening stating her vehicle had broken down at Station Camp in Tennessee.  Family members went to Station Camp to help Chitwood but were unable to locate her.  Chitwood did not return home that night. Subsequently, Chitwood’s older model red Chevy Blazer was found abandoned and parked at the Big Blue Tire Shop in Revelo, Kentucky.

A spokesperson for Big Blue Tires stated Chitwood asked if she could leave her vehicle parked in the parking lot.  After being told she could park her car, video indicates Chitwood returned to her car, parked it, and then began walking west on East Appletree Road.  At 6:27 p.m., additional video shows Chitwood walking past the McCreary County Water Plant, and just minutes later prior to the Lower Shirt Factory Road, a random still photo shows Chitwood being in close proximity to what appears to be a late-model black pickup truck (probably Ford or GMC) on East Appletree Road.  Witnesses best describe the clothing Chitwood was wearing when she was last seen as being faded denim capri pants with a pink sleeveless shirt.  According to relatives, Chitwood has a medical condition that requires medication. A relative reports Chitwood’s medications all seem to be still in place at her Winfield home.

Chitwood is fifty years old with blonde hair and blue eyes.  She is approximately 5’-5”.  Anyone with information regarding her location or who saw Chitwood on Saturday, June 18 (especially after 6:00 the evening) should immediately contact the McCreary County Sheriff’s Office at (606) 376-2322, Scott County Sheriff’s Office at 423-663-3111, or the McCreary County 911 dispatch.
