Going winless in four games on Saturday pushed the Lady Raiders’ losing streak to seven with the likes of Southwestern and Somerset Christian awaiting this week.

On paper the First Priority Lady Tournament Classic looks rough, but it wasn’t like McCreary didn’t have its chances to pick up a win or two along the way.

Coming off back-to-back losses to strong district foe Wayne County, the Whitley County tournament could have been the place to right the ship, but it just didn’t happen.

After falling to a good Cumberland Home School team to open play, the Lady Raiders bounced back to battle East Ridge to 3 sets, losing the first on in exciting fashion 30-28, then winning 25-21 before falling 15-6.

The Raiders suffered a 2-0 loss to Rockcastle, but also played better against Garrard County also pushing the Golden Lions to three sets.

Infact, after dropping the first set 25-17, McCreary dominated Garrard in the second set, 25-6 before  falling 15-11 in the third set.

While the overall record isn’t indicitive of great play, coach Amy Goins said there were some good things to come out of the tournament.

“ We played some great competition at Whitley County’s tournament. We had moments of greatness where we worked as a team and played phenomenal,” Goins said. “But we struggled with consistency and getting the job done when we needed too.”

While the Lady Raiders are on a skid, it doesn’t mean they are uncapable to playing big as they’ve shown in spurts this season.

“Our team has so much potential and I hate that our consistency has hurt us to the point that we haven’t been able to showcase the greatness we have seen at practice,” Goins said.

The road doesn’t get any easier for the ladies this week as they face a pair of tough opponents from the north.

“We play two solid team’s this week- Southwestern and Somerset Christian are two dominate forces right now in not only our district but region, Goins said. “We are looking to come out and improve upon our performances from earlier in the season”
