Grand Jury returns 14 indictments

On September 26, 2022, the McCreary County Grand Jury returned ten indictments against fourteen individuals.  Charges within the indictments vary, including charges for the alleged offenses of criminal abuse in the first degree, bail jumping, terroristic threatening in the second degree, wanton endangerment, and receiving stolen property.

Indictments released in September are as follows:

Charles Chestnut, of Whitley City, KY, was indicted on one count of Criminal Mischief in the First Degree by knowingly and unlawfully damaging a house and contents.  He was also charged with one count of Wanton Endangerment in the First Degree.

Justina Coffey, of Stearns, KY and Helena Coffey, of Stearns, KY, were each charged with three counts of Wanton Endangerment in the First Degree by wantonly, and with manifest indifference to the value of human life, engaging in conduct which created a danger of death or serious physical injury.

Chad Corder, of Whitley City, KY, was charged with one count of Receiving Stolen Property of the Value of $1,000 or More for receiving and possessing a 2002 Chevy Tahoe which had been stolen.  He was also charged with one count of Receiving a Stolen Firearm.

Jerry Douglas, of Revelo, KY, was charged with one count of Receiving Stolen Property of the Value of $1,000 or More by knowingly receiving and possessing tools and automobile parts which had been stolen.

James Fuson, of Parkers Lake, KY, was charged with one count of Bail Jumping in the First Degree by failing to appear at the Whitley County Detention Center after sentencing as ordered by Judge Dan Ballou.

Nathan Hurd, of Parkers Lake, KY, and Kimberly Carpenter, of Parkers Lake, KY, were charged with one count each of Receiving Stolen Property of the Value of $1,000 or More by receiving and possessing a 1990 Ford F150 truck which had been stolen; one count each of Criminal Mischief in the First Degree by knowingly and unlawfully damaging a truck engine and DUI Interlock device; and one count each of Wanton Endangerment in the First Degree.

Trinton Nickerson, of Huntsville, Alabama, and Ladarius Hall, of Catherine, Alabama, were each charged with one count each of Theft by Unlawful Taking of the Value of $10,000 or More by knowingly and unlawfully taking a 2021 black Can-Am side by side with payment by a fraudulent check and one count each of Persistent Felony Offender in the First Degree.

Justin Privett, Whitley City, KY, was charged with one count of Criminal Abuse in the First Degree by intentionally abusing a child less than 12 years of age and intentionally causing torture or cruel punishment.

Aaron Trammell, of Pine Knot, KY, was charged with one count of Terroristic Threatening in the Second Degree by threatening students and employees while school was in session at McCreary Central High School.

Dylan Waters, of Pine Knot, KY, and James Laney, of Stearns, KY, were charged with one count each of Receiving Stolen Property of the Value of $1,000 or More by knowingly and unlawfully receiving and possessing tools which had been stolen.

James Wilson, of Pine Knot, KY, was charged with one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, Second Offense by knowingly and unlawfully having in his possession a quantity of Methamphetamine, a schedule II controlled substance.

The Voice reminds our readers that an indictment is not an indication of one’s guilt or innocence, but represents that enough evidence exists in a case to pursue the matter in a court of law.
