October offers something for everyone

There’s lots to do in McCreary County during the spook-tacular month of October!
Friday evening (October 14) marks this year’s McCreary County American Cancer Relay for Life event in the gymnasium from 6:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. at the McCreary County Park. Organizers of the event will host the traditional survivors’ ceremony, lighting of luminaries, and games. All proceeds go the American Cancer Society.
At 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, judging for McCreary County’s Zombie Walk/Halloween Parade will take place at the McCreary County Park Gymnasium. Contestants for the Zombie Walk must arrive by 5:00 p.m. to register. Booths and other fun events will be available.
The McCreary County History and Genealogy Society will host a presentation about the early leaders and businesses of Whitley City. The presentation will take place at Jackson Park (behind the McCreary County Public Library) in Whitley City at 5:00 p.m.
This year, the McCreary County Museum offers two “Nights at the Museum” on Friday, Oct. 21 and Saturday, October 22 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. This popular event features actors/actresses who bring the museum’s exhibits to life for those touring the museum. Admission is $5.00.
The Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Awards Banquet is scheduled for October 25 at 6:00. Tickets are $35 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased for $30.
The Blazin’ Bluegrass Halloween event will be at the Sand Hill RV Camp on October 27-30. The public can drive through with no admission and see decorations, visit the spook house, join in games, karaoke, and gather around bon fires. However, trick or treating is for campers only and is closed to the public. If anyone wishes to set up a table and give out candy to camping trick or treaters, they may do so.
Hallow Scream ‘22 is when Halloween takes over downtown Stearns, KY, on Saturday Oct. 29th. Bike night kicks off at 4:00 PM. There will be food & merchandise vendors, drink stations, and live music by local greats JAC’D at 7:00 PM., followed by AC/DC tribute band Big Gun at 9:00 PM. This is a free event.
Finally, Halloween trick or treating for McCreary County will be on Monday, October 31 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
