Robert Green Martin (July 8, 1867-August 20, 1951) and Aggie (Cox) Martin (May 2, 1871-December 21, 1940) lived their entire lives in New Liberty, also known as Bear Wallow, Kentucky. The Martins had eight children: Luther Martin, Andy Martin, Minnie (Martin) Hill, Martha (Martin) Ball, John K. Martin, Maudie (Martin) Gilreath, Mary (Martin) Stephens, and Fred Martin. A photo of their son, John Martin and his wife Otie (Ball) Martin was featured in the October 12 edition of THE VOICE. Descendants of Robert and Aggie have been prominent citizens of McCreary County for over 100 years. As was common in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, the Martins were subsistence farmers who worked hard to create a home for their family. According to Aggie (Martin) Stephens, from Meadows Grove, the Martins were a happy, Christian couple and each of their children were successful in life. Aggie (Martin) Stephens is the daughter of Andy Martin and Nola (Davenport) Martin. Aggie’s namesake is her paternal Grandmother pictured above. Note the well-made picket fence behind Robert and Aggie and the hand sewn dress in the photo.
