There’s a story of an elephant and an ant. The elephant was getting ready to cross a swinging bridge. As he was approaching the bridge, an ant got on his back. The swinging bridge rocked and swayed under the weight of the elephant as they crossed. When they reached the other side, the ant said to the elephant, “We really shook that up, didn’t we?!” When we see God’s awesome power displayed, we must always remember we are like the ant on the elephant’s back. Without Him, we can’t shake anything up.
This story has always been a reminder to me of the fact that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. John the Baptist said, “I must decrease, but He must increase.” The Bible says, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Jesus said, “With man, this is impossible but with God, all things are possible.” Corrie Ten Boom said, “It is not my ability, but my response to God’s ability that counts” . The Christian life is not about what we can do for God, but what God can do through us. The next time God moves with power in your life, remember he’s the one shaking up the bridge.
