McCreary County will mark the official opening of its Christmas season by hosting two events on Saturday, December 3.
First on that day, the McCreary County Public Library will host its MCPL Shop Local Vendor Event from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. With the holidays quickly approaching, this one stop shopping event will allow McCreary Countians to shop local for all their holiday gift needs. Organizers urge everyone to come out and support small businesses from McCreary County. With the country’s current economic woes, it is more important than ever before to shop small and local.
Later that evening, everyone can share a Christmas story in the 2022 McCreary County Christmas parade. With this year’s theme of “A Christmas Story”, the annual parade is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. The parade will travel down Main Street (HWY 1561) in Whitley City from the Lord’s Gym. Santa and Mrs. Claus will make their grand entrance, stopping in front of the Courthouse to get ready for the lighting of the McCreary County Christmas tree. Carols will be sung before Mr. and Mrs. Claus begin a countdown to the lighting of the tree.
There is no fee to enter a float or entry in the parade. Entries are now being accepted. Contact McCreary County Tourism at 376-3008 for more information or to enter the parade.
