Last week, Whitley City Elementary organized a special event honoring Veterans. In addition to hosting a breakfast and special ceremony honoring veterans, the school’s old flag was retired and replaced with a new flag. Judge Executive Jimmie “Bevo” Greene donated a new American flag to the school, and the local V.F.W. donated a state flag. WCE principal Angela Loudermilk noted that every time students and staff see the flags flying, they will remember the kindness shown by each veteran and the sacrifices made by all veterans. Whitley City Elementary’s own Thomas Corder taught students about the changing of the flag. The WCE choir, directed by Jennifer Murphy, did a wonderful job with music. WCE student Kaiden Warman read a beautiful poem, and student Carson Patrick led the school in prayer. “The ceremony touched many hearts,” Principal Loudermilk said. “We appreciate our veterans and all those who made this day possible.”
