In an effort to increase parent involvement at Pine Knot Elementary, PKE reached out to Mrs. Jenny Hobson, a Berea Partners for Education representative this summer to begin the process to apply for the Family Friendly School Certification. To achieve certification, teachers, administrators and parents completed a series of trainings designed to improve school-family-community partnerships. The school leadership team and SBDM members completed a self assessment of the rubric objectives and designed an action plan to increase performance of those goals. Part of the Family Friendly Schools Action Plan, was to increase student led initiatives in the school. Out of this came the project based learning math and reading classes at PKE. During Mrs. Hobsons latest visit, she informed PKE that they were ready to apply. Pine Knot Elementary looks forward to the recognition and more importantly, the continued partnerships with families in our community.
