“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
We are walking through a time in all of our lives that are difficult. We have all trudged through the past 2 and a half years with heavy hearts and bountiful worries. We have all been affected by the craziness of life in many ways. So often we come to points of intersection and do not know what to do, both ways seem to have no hope, no rest, no assurance.
In this passage, Jesus the Christ, tells us of a different path, a path that leads to Him. We find that in the midst of us being “heavy laden,” Christ will give us rest. Who can say they have not been, or are not, heavy laden? Christ promises us a place of refuge, a place to learn under the arms of one who is gentle and loving. We must ask ourselves, Where is it we would want to stand tomorrow? Do we want to face the next battle on our own with all our baggage? Or, would you rather face the next battle with Christ, who has removed your baggage and will guide you in the direction you need to go?
The beauty of this passage not only falls on the grace of Christ being willing to take our troubles, but Him placing his yoke upon us. The yoke is used to direct and move that which is under it. When we accept this yoke it allows us to move under in the direction Christ knows we can go. Without it, we wander aimless, without purpose, in the wrong direction. With the yoke of Christ, He can guide us in the path He already knows pointing us toward the destination that leads to Him and His Grace.
The Question is left: Will you accept the gift of the yoke of Christ?
