Volunteers are ready to serve annual Christmas Eve feast
To honor the founder of the annual McCreary County Banquet of Blessings, Fred Berkowitz who passed away earlier this year, this year’s diners are encouraged to arrive in person, sit down, and dine with others in fellowship. For Fred, the fellowship amongst those participating was just as important as the food.
As is tradition, this year’s Banquet of Blessings will be hosted on Saturday, December 24, between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. However this year, due to construction at McCreary Middle School, the banquet will be served at the Whitley City Elementary School Cafeteria. The delicious Christmas Eve meal will consist of a hot turkey dinner complete with gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, rolls, and pie. All dinners are served at no cost, although donations are welcome. The Banquet is a community-wide meal, so everyone is welcome!
There will be a limited number of fruit bags given away as long as the supply lasts. There is a limit of one fruit bag per family/household. Additionally, Santa will make an appearance to help pass out gifts to children and pose for photos. Each person who dines in person will be entered in a drawing for prizes.
Last year, the volunteers who organized and hosted the Banquet served 1,082 dinners. Organizers are hopeful they will serve even more dinners during this year’s Banquet. All donations go toward the expenses associated with the yearly Christmas Eve feast.
