We are excited to announce that we will be offering a Kentucky Extension Master Gardeners training program in McCreary County beginning January 2023!
The Kentucky Extension Master Gardener Program (KEMG) is affiliated with the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service. The program is active in several Kentucky counties, and recruits and trains volunteers to assist county Extension agents in delivering horticulture education in their counties.
To become a certified Master Gardener, trainees must complete an application (including back-ground check), attend educational classes, pass an exam, and complete 40 hours of approved volunteer service. To maintain certification, Master Gardeners must complete 20 hours of approved volunteer service and 10 hours of continuing education annually.
This will be a hybrid program, with monthly in-person classes offered during the day and an online class option for those who cannot attend in-person.
There will be a $50 one-time fee which includes Master Gardener curriculum and class materials.
To register for the program, please stop by the McCreary County Extension Office at 141 College St. in Whitley City, KY or mail a completed application with the $50 registration fee to :
