Sheriff Waters withdraws petition contesting election
Early last week, McCreary County Sheriff Randy Waters withdrew his petition contesting the November McCreary County Sheriff’s Election results. Sheriff Waters said he withdrew his petition so the County can move forward in the new year and to prevent further mistrust of the election process. Sheriff Waters said he wishes his successor, Sheriff-elect David Sampson, nothing but the best during Sampson’s upcoming administration.
Sheriff-elect Sampson said he is grateful the matter is settled. The case is dismissed effective when Judge Dan Ballou signs the order.
Sampson is clearly looking forward to shouldering his responsibilities as Sheriff on January 1, 2023.
“I can’t wait to take office,” Sampson said enthusiastically.
Sheriff-elect Sampson will be sworn in by Circuit Judge Dan Ballou on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 and will officially take office on January 1, 2023.
