McCreary County Sheriff David Sampson reports that Chief Deputy Dustin Ridner will present a case to the Grand Jury next month concerning the alleged theft of a vehicle from Ken’s Used Car Lot in Whitley City. Deputy Ridner received a call on January 17, 2023 concerning forced entry into the office of Ken’s Used Car Lot. The door to the office had been pried open and two sets of keys plus one Silverado Chevrolet pickup truck were missing.
Deputy Ridner reviewed camera footage from surrounding businesses and entered details of his findings into evidence. On the following day, Ridner received an anonymous tip that the missing truck was in a wooded area on Yancey Strunk Road which leads off of the Day Ridge Road.
Ridner found two male individuals when he arrived at the location given through the anonymous tip. Deputy Ridner interviewed and took statements from both individuals. Deputy Ridner investigated the property, collected evidence, and located the missing vehicle in a wooded area just over the hill from where he had interviewed the two male individuals. The owner of the missing truck was on the scene and was able to retrieve his property.
Additional McCreary County Sheriff’s deputies and Kentucky Fish and Wildlife also responded to the scene.
