McCreary County Emergency Management Director Stephen McKinney responded to a 911 call on Friday regarding a leaking above ground tank at Ron’s Market on Hwy 90. The tank leaked diesel into the ground, parking lot, and ditch line. A concerned citizen was responsible for reporting the leak by snapping a photo and sending it to a member of the Eagle/Sawyer Fire Department. The firefighter inspected and immediately called 911.
The area was coned and taped off as responders dammed up the spill and applied Oil Dry. The incident was reported to state officials. As a result of the incident, an environmental team will do an inspection of the area and orders were given to shut down the tank until it is inspected by the State Fire Marshall.
