17 employees impacted by closure
McCreary County will lose its last stand-alone national chain drug store when Walgreens in Whitley City totally closes its doors on February 27, 2023. According to the manager of the local Walgreens, the store’s pharmacy department will notify current customers and send out information regarding the procedure for transferring pharmacy records to different pharmacies. The store will also conduct two “store closure sales” on regular store items prior to the February 27 closure.
According to corporate officials of Walgreens, an in depth cost analysis conducted at the Whitley City location led to the decision to close the store. Results of the analysis deemed it not viable to keep the store open.
Seventeen workers will be impacted by the local Walgreens’ closure. Deputy Judge Nathan Nevels noted the County will offer another Teleworks USA training on February 21-24 (10:00 a.m. –2:00 p.m. each day) at the McCreary County Public Library to help displaced workers and others who are interested in legitimate work at home opportunities. Many of these positions pay as much as $16-$17 per hour. Interested individuals can register to attend @ bit.ly/MCO21. For more information about the training, contact Deputy Judge Nathan Nevels at the McCreary County Courthouse.
