After Jesus fed the multitude with five loaves and two fishes, He prevailed upon His disciples to get into a boat and go to the other side. The disciples had the word of Jesus that they were to go to the other side. Jesus stayed behind and went to a mountain to pray, so it’s comforting to know the Bible tells us He ever lives to make intercession for us. The disciples were men that understood boats and understood the lake they were traveling. However, on that night, there came a great storm. The Bible is very clear while they were in the midst of the sea, the wind became contrary. They were in rough seas at the mercy of the waves. In the process, the apostle Peter also walked on water. However, Peter got distracted and began to sink in the water, but Jesus pulled them up. They both walked back to the boat and got on board, and Jesus calmed the storm.
Every believer has experienced times while walking out the will of God, that the winds are contrary. It is so awesome in life to recognize that no matter what we face, Jesus is already on top of it.
As born-again believers, we were not only delivered from our past sins but we were liberated to a future hope. Sometimes, it’s easy to accept that God has taken care of our past,. but it is more difficult to trust him with our future. As one writer said, “I don’t know what tomorrow holds, but I know who holds tomorrow.” It’s this great confidence in God‘s ability to take care of our past, present, and future that gives us hope at all times. Paul said, “Forgetting the things that are behind, I press toward the mark of the high calling in Christ.” Forgetting and pressing is a great way to live the Christian life. The Bible says, “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Jesus Christ is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. The Bible says, “He is the author and the finisher of our faith.” That can give us confidence to know that, in life, when the winds are contrary, our Savior will see us through.
He has given us this great promise, “I will never leave you, and I will never forsake you.”
