Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.
II Corinthians 6:17-18
In the midst of everything going on these past couple of weeks, we must ask: how do we respond? With politics, Grammy awards, and general life, it can often leave the Christ follower wondering what to do next. “Where should I stand, what should I do?” Thankfully the Word of Life has a truth for us in this moment. Paul speaks to the Corinthian church in this letter, helping the new believers understand how to walk through life. Here, in the middle of his letter, he leaves this truth, “separate from them.”
Separate from them? What is Paul saying? Paul is telling us a great truth in just a short saying. We live a life led by Christ, we live a life that looks different from those around us. This will lead us to ask those questions, What do I do when something happens that is against my faith. The beautiful thing is that we are called to be separated, pulled away from such things. In that God will be our father, and we will be His Son or Daughter.
We have the greatest father, that when things don’t make sense, or we don’t know where to turn, we can look to Him and know that He is right next to us. He is separated from this world and He is calling us to do the same thing. We may not always have answers for why the world is the way it is, but we can stand on the promises of God’s love for us.
Let us separate ourselves from this world, and turn to the Father that loves us!!
