Mr. Charles Arvid Browning (1914-1992) was a man of varied interests including art, music, books, and gardening. In 1940 he was a beloved Commerce teacher at Stearns High School. The dedication page above is from the 1940 Stearns High School yearbook donated to the McCreary County Museum by Betty June Wright.
Arvid was a native of Fleming County and taught in McCreary and Fleming counties before WWII. During WWII he served in the Army Air Corps. He was honored to be a Kentucky Colonel. After the war, he worked at the Veterans Administration in Fort Thomas and the General Electric plant in Evendale.
From 1961-1977 he and his wife, Hazel Ruth Browning, owned and operated an art and framing store called Browning’s of Wyoming at Crescent and Poplar in Wyoming. He and Ruth had two children, Sally Ann Browning, and Mark Browning. Mr. Arvin died May 25, 1992, at his home in Wyoming after a lengthy illness. His body was donated to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
