Carolyn Branscum Hamlin

Carolyn Branscum Hamlin of Liberty Township, Ohio, beloved wife, mother and granny, passed away at home on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the age of 81. Born November 14,1941 in Yamacraw, Kentucky to Pollie (Keith) and Hartman Branscum. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter Jennifer Lynn Hamlin, brothers Carl Dean Branscum, Doyle Branscum, and Fines Branscum. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Ronald Hamlin; her children Joseph Hamlin, Jason Hamlin, Maria Hamlin Heyob, and April Hamlin; grandchildren Charles Heyob, Tyler Hamlin, Victoria Heyob Papa, Abbagaille Hammonds, Jacob Heyob, Jarod Hamlin, Ayden Hamlin, Trey Hamlin, and Hartman Hamlin; her great-grandson Grayson Hammonds; and her siblings Betty Saylor, Donald Branscum, Paul Branscum and Doris Branscum. Born and raised in a small coal town in Kentucky, she moved to Cincinnati for work. On July 23, 1966, she married Ronald Hamlin and they settled in Liberty Township in 1977. Her greatest joy was her family. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting, taking pictures and tending to her flowers. She often participated with her family and church in the Liberty Township 4th of July Parade. Carolyn held many jobs while raising her family, from a phone operator for Cincinnati Bell to an associate at McAlpin’s Distribution Center and later for SNAAC Financial. Her favorite job was after retirement when she was a lunch aide at Wyandot Elementary. After retirement, she and her husband spent time traveling, taking long road trips where she kept detailed notes on their journeys. Carolyn was a dedicated Christian and member of Bethany Baptist Church where she taught Vacation Bible School and coordinated the Veterans Day dinners. She also taught Sunday School for many years at New Haven Missionary Baptist Church. Even in her most difficult times she kept her bible close, praising God and sharing His word. Carolyn was kind, loving, and a bit too honest with just enough sass to make us laugh. She was compassionate, frequently donating to the veterans and homeless. She had a special place in her heart for the broken and afflicted. She was strong, fighting three cancer diagnoses over her life while enduring great suffering and pain. Like the Apostle Paul she held a humble confidence knowing her eternal reward awaited in Heaven. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” Funeral service was held February 11, 2023 at the Bethany Baptist Church with a Graveside service at Spring Hill Cemetery in Liberty Township, Ohio.
