James “Luke” Luther Troxell

James “Luke” Luther Troxell, age 86 years, of Whitley City, Kentucky died Friday, February 24, 2023 at his daughter’s home.

He was born in White Oak Junction, Kentucky on July 8, 1936 the son of George and Artie (Winchester) Troxell. Luke had worked on the production in several factories and was a member of the Hickory Knob United Baptist Church. He was best known for being at auctions, and thrift stores, and enjoyed ginseng and yellow root hunting, and being outdoors.

His parents; wife, Mary Jean (Wyatt) Troxell; sons, Stanley Wayne Troxell, David Allen Troxell, and Larry Dale Troxell; brothers, Ernest Dean Troxell and William Troxell; sisters, Mary Wyatt and Lucille Troxell; and grandchildren, Little Jimmy Troxell and Amanda Troxell precede him in death.

Survivors include his son, Jimmy Dean Troxell of Whitley City, Kentucky; daughters, Faye Vaughn and husband, Gene of Whitley City, Kentucky and Linda Blanford and husband, Scott of Holy Cross, Kentucky; brother, Denzil Lee Troxell of Ohio; sister, Arlene Jones and husband, Carl of Whitley City, Kentucky; grandchildren, Christopher Troxell, Nicole Troxell, Paige Pauley, Nina Troxell, Holly Acker, Rachel Horton, Jacob Troxell, Jackie Troxell, Jessica Troxell, Daneille Bolin, Kelsey Vaughn, Chelsea Bryant (Oscar), Larry Sammons (Terri), Teia Green (Jared), Serena Blanford, Rachel Kersey (Joe), and Mason Blanford; and 39 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held 1pm Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at the McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Rufus Hughes and Bro. Tommy Tapley officiating. Burial followed in the Barren Fork Cemetery. The family received friends after 6pm Monday, February 27, 2023 at the Funeral Home.
