Rev. Darrell Lee Vanover, age 76 years, of Whitley City, Kentucky died Thursday March 2, 2023 at his beloved companion’s home in Whitley City, Kentucky. He was born in Oneida, Tennessee on September 24, 1946 the son of Mahan and Irene (Bryant) Vanover. Darrell had worked as a coal miner for the Stearns Coal and Lumber Company and was an ordained minister at the Sandhill United Baptist Church. His favorites hobbies were fishing, camping, being the caretaker of the Sandhill 4-H camp, and spending time with his grandchildren. His parents; wife, Linda Lou (Perry) Vanover; brothers, Chester Vanover, Howard Vanover, and Mitchell Vanover; and sister, Bonnie Stanley precede him in death. Survivors include his beloved companion, Donna Kay Ridener of Whitley City, Kentucky; daughters, Donna Sumner and husband, Kyle of Whitley City, Kentucky and Michelle Vanover Perkins of Whitley City, Kentucky; grandchildren, Clarissa Tucker (Mitchell), Zachary Sumner (Jamee), Macy Sumner (Jake), Jenna Perkins, and Jolie Perkins; great grandchildren, Mason Tucker and Molly Tucker. Funeral services were held 2pm Monday, March 6, 2023 at the McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Eddie Melton officiating. Burial followed in the Taylor Ridge Cemetery. The family received friends after 12pm Monday at the Funeral Home. McCreary County Funeral Home entrusted with the arrangements.
