As a result of Friday’s (March 3, 2023) high winds reaching almost 70 miles per hour across the region, 34,300 SKRECC members lost electrical power. Many McCreary Countians were among those impacted by the power outages. Across the region and county, there were multiple reports of broken poles, downed power lines, and trees on power lines. (Pictured above is a tree on a power line alongside McCreary County’s Lick Creek Road.) McCreary County schools were closed on Monday due to lingering power outages throughout the county. All available South Kentucky RECC linemen, construction and operation crews, right-of-way crews and other personnel have been working to restore power. In addition, SKRECC had more than forty mutual aid lineman traveling from as far away as Louisiana to offer assistance.
