George Quincy Hamlin

George Quincy Hamlin age 84 of Pine Knot, Kentucky passed from this life on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born February 21, 1939, in Stearns, Kentucky to the late Quincy Everette Hamlin and Noel Deloris (Duncan) Gallegos. Surviving family include his daughters, Cynthia Quinn Spradlin of Lexington, and Laura Georgann Bastecki (and Tony) also of Lexington, Kentucky; mother of his children, Navada Ann Haynes; grandchildren, Quinton Joseph Ferrell, Abigail Irene Owens, Brendon Wade Cleary, Lauren Jade Alvarez (and Noah), Victor Blake Bastecki, and Shane McMullen (Val); and great-grandchildren, Ian Jason Kerns, Sofia Annmarie Alvarez, and Savannah McMullen. Also surviving are many special nieces and nephews that George greatly loved. George was a 24 year veteran having served 20 years in the Army and 4 years in the Air Force. During his time in the Military, he served in Vietnam and worked as a Dental Laboratory Technician. Upon retiring from the Military, George owned “Life-Like Dental Lab” in Somerset, Kentucky and Crossville, Tennessee. He was a member of the American Legion Post 115 in Stearns as well as the local VFW. In the past, George was also a Mason with the Masonic Lodge. He had many interests and hobbies that consisted of traveling, fishing, flying airplanes, and old cars, especially red ones. He also enjoyed watching UK Basketball and was a UK Alumni. But above all things, George loved his family and most importantly, his grandbabies. Funeral service were held on Monday, March 13, 2023, at 11:00 am in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Mill Springs National Cemetery at 1:30 pm. The family received friends for visitation Monday morning after 10:00 am until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you make a donation to a local VA Hospital or Facility in Honor of all those who have fought and served our country as George has. Pine Knot Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
