The students of McCreary County have a long history of excellence. Throughout my thirty-four year career as a music educator, students from McCreary County demonstrated musical skills unparalleled across the state. In addition to being outstanding musicians, the students were respectful and cooperative at adjudications, performances, and all-state events. I was proud to be their director, not only because of their musical skills but of the way they represented our county.
At national competitions, the Esprit de Corps Award is one choirs from McCreary County received on a regular basis. According to the Music in Our Parks Festival, “The Esprit de Corps Award recognizes the participating organization that displays an exemplary attitude of positive support and outstanding personal behavior throughout the festival weekend. Personal integrity, quality character values, a desire for excellence, and a spirit of cooperation serve as the cornerstone qualities of the Esprit de Corps Award.”
For more than 30 years, March has been designated by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) as Music In Our Schools Month. Tuesday, March 21 at 6:00PM in the auditorium at McCreary Central our students will showcase their artistic and musical talents. Instruction in the arts helps students with the development of motor skills, language skills, social skills, decision-making, risk-taking, and inventiveness. The all-state chorus students from 1995 pictured above demonstrate how participation in the arts helps create productive members of society with the skills necessary for impressive careers.
