Last week (March 23, 2023), two district court cases of local interest were bound over to the Grand Jury. With the Honorable District Judge Fred White presiding over court, David Hoskins, attorney for Superintendent John Gunn, waived his client’s right to a preliminary hearing and requested Gunn’s case be sent on to the Grand Jury. Gunn was charged with possession of a weapon on school property. If Gunn is indicted by the Grand Jury, the case will move on to Circuit Court.
The second case involved the accused, Timothy Meadows, and a January bomb threat made by phone to the Child Support Office which is located in the McCreary County Courthouse. As a result of the preliminary hearing for Meadows, Judge White ruled there is enough evidence to send the case on to the Grand Jury. The threat forced the temporary closure of the Courthouse, allowing law enforcement enough time to search the building before declaring it safe to reenter.
The Grand Jury convenes in April.
