Doris Slavey and Kentucky Wind
After 20 years my time with the Blazin Bluegrass has come to an end! As of today I feel it is time to move on to other ventures in life! But I want to take this time to thank each and everyone of the people that have supported me and Kentucky Wind on this wonderful journey. Both the sponsors, the radio stations, and to the many volunteers that helped every year with the set up, the gate, and numerous other jobs that helped it to run successfully. Lots of great bands came year after year at discounted rates to help us get the festival off the ground! Mr. Dean Osborne spent countless hours telling me the do’s and don’ts of running a successful festival! He was a wonderful asset! A special thank you to the bluegrass fans that were so faithful to come year after year. Without you there would have been no festival! We love and appreciate each of you!
We were honored when we were asked by the Department of Tourism, 20 years ago to start a festival for McCreary County. The very first year we paid back the money that they fronted us and from that time on we worked hard to put on the best festival we could for our people there in the county. For the first 10+ years Kentucky Wind as the host band, had to put up a big circus tent, build the stage, and eventually with the help of volunteers, and the Park Board, we were able to build that nice big shelter where the festival is still held. But we loved every minute of it, because we saw our fellow McCreary Folks having a ball year after year. Results of that was how fast the festival expanded. The campers became a family and still it’s like a family reunion too most of the folks that attend. We have had folks visit us from not just the whole United States, but several places in the world. We had one family that came several years in a row from England just to attend the festival. We enjoyed the festival as much as the campers! We made friendships that will last a lifetime!
We loved you all and still do! I hope that the festival meant as much to you all as it did to us! The festival is still going but I feel my time there is over as a committee member. But I wanted each of you to know that there could have been no festival if you all hadn’t been there as loyal friends to support us! I will always have wonderful memories of each of you! The stories are too numerous to tell. I don’t want to start trying to name names because I would leave someone out. But we have seen the Lord move in many situations and fix broken hearts, broken souls, and broken bodies! The music will forever live on in our hearts! For that, I am forever grateful! God Bless each and everyone of you and may God richly bless you all! Please share this with your friends , as I would like as many folks as possible to know that we appreciate them!!
Dear Editor,
Read Mark 1;17.
A Real Fisherman is positive, is persistent, is patient, is passionate. Meditate on the wonder that the Lord Jesus still uses ordinary people like you to do extraordinary things for His glory. Be positive. Start looking for answers in every problem. Be persistent. Never give up. Be patient. Try different methods, and be passionate. Always hate to lose. Our Jesus said, “Follow me. I will me you fishers of men.”
We need to ask God to make us soul winners for Jesus Christ. Do you know Jesus personally? Call upon Jesus today.
