A two-vehicle crash in Pine Knot at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23 (2023) resulted in four air medical helicopters from PHI and Air Method Air Medical transporting four individuals from the scene of the accident to University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. A fifth individual was transported by ambulance to Somerset’s Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital by McCreary County EMS. According to law enforcement, a grey Mustang and a blue, northbound Nissan Versa crashed as the Mustang attempted a left turn off KY Hwy 92 at Pine Knot onto south U.S. 27 at the same time as the Nissan Versa was traveling north on Hwy 27. All passengers were female, ranging in age from 18 to 62 years old. On Wednesday following the accident, two of the individuals had been released from hospitals, and the remaining three individuals were in stable condition. The McCreary County Sheriff’s Department, McCreary County EMS, South McCreary Fire Department, PHI Air Medical, and Air Method Air Medical responded to the scene of the accident. McCreary County Sheriff’s Deputy Charles Perry worked the scene of the wreck.
