Joyce Dean (Coffey) Nelson, age 84 years, of the Rattlesnake Ridge community of Stearns, Kentucky, departed this life on Saturday, May 28, 2023, at the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, Kentucky. She was born January 14, 1939, to the late Sterling and Ester (Dobbs) Coffey in Co-Op, Kentucky. Joyce was a homemaker who loved her family. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, camping, fishing, watching her “monkey” shows, reading and telling scary stories to her grandkids. She was a member of Cherokee United Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Nelson, her brothers: Curtis Coffey and Sterling Coffey, Jr., her sisters: Joanne Coffey and Hazel Matthews and two great grandsons: Justus Cole Spradlin and Earl Franklin Vaughn. She is survived by her children: Wade Coffey (Sara), Sharon Nelson, Gerald Nelson (Misty), Maggie Troxell (Mike), Jeff Nelson (Theresa), Nicki Swangin (David), and Brandon Nelson (Samantha) Grandchildren: Mickey Hammock, Melissa Adams, Christina Cox, Casey Wright, Jeremy Nelson, William Nelson, Joey Spradlin, Jamie Davis, Janie McCartt, Shauntella Gibson, Nathan Conaster, Melissa Murphy, Samantha King, Ashton Snyder, Dalton Morrow, Mikayla Winchester, Brittany Heath, and Shiann Swangin. Great-grandchildren: (Megan, Evan), (Hunter, Calob, Makenzi), (Savannah, Nathan, Chloe), (Madison, Macey), (Deina, Clara), (Rylan, Bryson, Kenneth), (Joey), (Megan, Nathan), (Justus, Cayden, Alisen, Elijah), (Lia, Skye, Earl, Eliana, Jaxon), (Trent, Tristen), (Grace, Josh), (Weston, Kade), (Carter, Carsen, Corban, Kennodi), (Waelyn, Braylee, Brilynn, Brenlynn), (Brentlee, Brayden, Callan), and (Easton, Eairabella). Great-great-grandchildren: (Kinley, Levi), (Luka), (Keeley, Kinley), (Atlas, Ronin), and (Halen); sisters, Ellen Combs (and Jim) and Susan Marcum (and Mike), as well as many nieces and nephews and family. She loved all who held a special place in her heart. In keeping with her wishes, Joyce was cremated. Along with her family, the Beech Grove United Baptist Church had a Celebration of Life Service on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. Words of comfort by Bro. Robert Hatfield.
