The Parkland Motel has a new owner in Nick Patel, and he is vowing to revamp the lodging into an excellent mid-scale (priced) place for visitors and tourists to stay overnight in McCreary County.
“I want to make this a nice and welcoming motel for visitors,” Patel said.
Expecting to invest nearly $200,000 in renovating the motel, Patel plans to paint both inside and out, clean up the outside, maintain the swimming pool, and place new furniture throughout. He is already making one major change by not allowing monthly or long-term rentals.
Patel, who owns one independent motel in Oneida and several convenience stores and gas stations throughout Scott, Morgan, and Fentress (TN) counties, saw potential when he first toured the Parkland.
“I heard about it and came to look,” Patel said. “I liked it, and it is in a very good location.”
Thus far, Patel has been impressed with the community.
“I’m glad to have a business, here,” Patel remarked. “I love small communities, and the people here are very nice and welcoming. I’m honored to have a business here.
Patel said it will take some time to accomplish his goals for the motel.
“In six months, I will turn this place around, and it will be different,” Patel said. “It will be better. My goal is to make this a very nice place, and I’m sure I can do it!”
