As part of a crackdown on burglaries and thefts, McCreary County Sheriff David Sampson reported the identification and arrest of two suspects on September 15, 2023 in connection with three burglaries occurring at the Before Town Market in East Pine Knot. McCreary County Deputies Greg Rhoades and Alex Jones led the investigation, resulting in the arrest of eighteen-year-old John McConnell and a male juvenile. Both were charged with Burglary, 1st degree and several additional charges.
The suspects reportedly wore the same clothing to burglarize the Before Town market on three different occasions. Reportedly, during the first burglary, the suspects made entry into the store through a vent. During a later burglary, the suspects reportedly cut a hole where the vent had been repaired following one of the previous burglaries.
“We are cracking down on burglaries and thefts,” Sheriff Sampson said. “This type of activity will not be tolerated in our county.”
McConnell was transported and lodged at the Knox County Detention Center.
