Photo by Eugenia Jones Sam King, owner of the Dixie Diner, is pictured, surrounded by her children and cousins who work at the local restaurant: Savannah, Christy, Heather, and Haley.
The Dixie Diner is McCreary County’s newest eatery, offering up daily home cooked specials, along with a regular menu consisting of burgers, wraps, salads, appetizers, chili, hot dogs, milk shakes, sundaes, desserts, and all-day breakfast.
Located at 880 HWY 1651 (old Hwy 27) across from Raymond “Pig” Stephens’ old garage, just south of the McCreary County School District Bus Garage, the Dixie Diner is owned by Sam & Josh King. Operated by Sam (Sami or Samantha), the diner is a dream come true.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” Sam said. “We’ve named a lot of our menu items after local places in McCreary County, as well as big-time singers. We’ve got the Folsom Prison Plate for breakfast, Dolly’s Dumplings on Mondays, and Bell Farm Beans on Tuesdays! I’m also trying to buy locally, because I think it is important to support other businesses in the County.”
Daily home cooked specials at the Dixie Diner are:
Dolly’s Dumplings-Monday
Bell Farm Beans (Pinto)-Tuesday
Mouth of Indian Meatloaf-Wednesday
David Allen Coe’s Cabbage/Sausage-Thursday
Fish-Friday
The Diner is a family operated business, with the Kings’ children and cousins working as servers and cooks.
The Dixie Diner is open from 8:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. The Diner is open from 9:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. on Saturday. Customers are invited to eat in or carry out. Orders may be ordered in advance by calling 606-350-1069.
